There is a strike at the main factory in Soviet Novocherkassk. People are demanding lower prices for products and higher wages. When workers from other institutions join the strike, a government commission decides to bring in a red army into the city, and in just a few hours the sound of gunfire can be heard in the streets. Lyudmila, a member of the party committee, sincerely believes in the justice of the communist party and is outraged by the workers’ protest. However, everything changes when her teenage daughter is lost in this mess.
Andrei Konchalovsky, one of the most decorated directors in modern Russian cinema, has documented with tragic accuracy the tragic stories of the Soviet regime in the 1960s, which has been met with mixed reviews in Russian society and the media. The main role in the film was played by his wife, Julia Vysotskaya.
