Man Bites Dog (C’est arrivé près de chez vous)

A cult film — a dark parody of how much aggression and violence is transmitted to our brains through film and television.

The film crew follows up and gets the story about one person. The protagonist of the film Ben is presented from the beginning as an interesting and intelligent young man who understands musical instruments, has his own opinion on this or that event, is a good talker and his jokes are also relevant. Sometimes drinks too much, his white poems and reasoning can reach the absurd, but to whom has not happened to..? However, the matter is different … Ben is a serial killer and a brutal abuser, he kills people and he does it quite virtuously. And it happens so many times in the film, that the crew and we, the viewers, get used to it.

“When a dog bites a man, that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news.”- Charles Anderson Dana (publisher of the New York Sun newspaper) These words have a special meaning in this film, because behind the cultural or sophisticated character in the film hides the most cruel and bloody creature in the world – human. The pseudo-documentary style of the film gives us a sense of 100% reality and makes us believe in what is happening on the screen, which in itself is a credit to the filmmakers and the wonderful actor Benoît Poelvoorde.
