French crime drama of amazing charge and directorial decision.
Carla Bhem is a simple secretary in a real estate office. Her daily routine consists of boring work and listening to her friend’s love adventures in the evening. She herself has no one and has never loved anyone. Carla has a hearing problem, she uses a hearing aid. Her skill – to understand by the movement of the lips what people are talking about, gives her the advantage to know what those around her think. Her life changes when the Employment Bureau sends her a 25-year-old intern, Paul, who has just been released from prison.
From one simple crime story, Jacques Audiard created a wonderful story about people in difficult relationships, their decisions, love, and the best acting team helped him in this. (Leading actress Emmanuelle Devos won the César Award that year, beating Audrey Tautou of Amélie and Isabelle Huppert of The Piano Teacher).
